If you have ever been to the Goroka Show in Papua New Guinea then you will not be surprised to see these photos. The event is stunning. I was fascinated by many things and among them were the head dresses and ornaments that adorned the body.
The Goroka Festival is a major cultural event, held ever year in the town of Goroka. About 100 tribes arrive dressed in full adornment to show their music and dance. It is a competition and they take it very seriously. Their were over 29 languages and societies and each one was unique. They all sang and danced at the same time...it was a sound like no other. You could easily fall under their spell, it was hard not to. This was one of those experiences where I stepped out of my comfort zone and it ended up being one of the most memorable experiences of my life.
Over the next few posts, I would like to share photos from this extraordinary trip in the hopes that someday, if you have not been already, you will take the opportunity to see this amazing show in Papua New Guinea.
