Ruby, Nell, Smut and Ruffle

While travelling in the English Lake District
we came across a large estate with the most intriguing gardens.
We were the last visitors of the day.
I wandered alone thru the woods
and came upon five little markers in the distance.
They were off the path and looked long forgotten.
I am assuming they were markers for pets
given that the names were Ruby, Smut, Ruffle and Nell.
I could not make out the fifth.
I crept in quietly and snuck these photos
while imagining the children
that would have loved and cared for them.
