A Garden to Love in New Zealand

I live in a hedged world...not sure how it happened but it seems
every house we have lived in has been surrounded by hedges.

This may be why I secretly seek out gardens that are big,
unruly and filled with interesting objects.
I am attracted to them like bees to honey.

This garden is part of Awaroa Lodge in the Abel Tasman Park
on the South Island of New Zealand. My previous post
of our trip to this wonderful location is here.

I imagine myself someday tooling around a garden like this.
Filling it with curious objects, many of my own making.
A little bit of this and that....away from the hustle and bustle of life.
A creative soul lives within this garden.
I like that!

I wonder if one of the creative souls is Millie :)

Have a great weekend!

  1. If you like unruly gardens...then you'd surely like mine!! We have what we fondly call our "English Garden" and by the end of the summer it just grows it's own way!
Love the curly-quey things that you've shown in these gardens...they add so much interest! Pretty!

  2. Jeanne - Awaroa is one of my favourite places in the world! I grew up in Nelson and my friends and I would spend endless summers around the Abel Tasman: kayaking, windsurfing, sailing, tramping. I remember one spectacular NY Eve at the Lodge. We sailed in by day and spent the afternoon on the beach. The Lodge was practically deserted. But come nightfall people arrived in droves, by track, boat, yacht - even kayaks. There was a fantastic Irish band and the entire Lodge pumped all night long. The next day, you could hardly see a soul. It was as if everyone had melted back into the bush. We visited Pohara this summer, but alas, did not make it around Farewell Spit. Thank you so much for sharing your photos. x
