The story of the enchanting little church continues....for inside the church is an Arts Centre which runs an Artist in Residence Programme. The purpose of the programme is to give an 'early career artist or maker the opportunity to develop new site specific work and to gain experience in working with the public as part of the St George's Arts ourtreach programme'. How wonderful is that? On the day I visited, weaver and designer-maker Louse Nason was showing the result of her 8-month residency with an exhibition entitled 'Fabricate, a woven response to place'. It was lovely.
A woven piece for the church window..
I love this concept of a 'Community Weave'. Members of the public were invited to come in and assist with the piece of cloth on display below. All contributors were mentioned in the exhibit.
The tools of her trade were also on display
It is so wonderful to read the story behind the work.
Louise is a talented weaver and it was a treat to see her work.
There is more to come in this little church in the upcoming year...I am so glad I found it!
